Minding Your Thoughts
A Biblical Overview of Obtaining and Maintaining a Biblical Thought Life
Psalms 92:5 O LORD, how great are thy works! and thy thoughts are very deep.
If a man begins digging a hole in the earth and he continues digging through the center of the earth, will he begin digging upward or will he continue to dig downward? According to the totality of Scripture, God’s thoughts are so deep they begin to go up. Isaiah wrote: “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:9)
No wonder that David testified, If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. (Psalm 139:8)
Mankind cannot outthink God. When will we finally figure this out? If our thoughts are high, His are higher. If our thoughts are deep, His are deeper. Don’t believe this? Read Job chapters 38 – 41. The Lord asked Job, who was the greatest man in the east at that time, 84 questions; none of which Job could answer. Questions like Have the gates of death been opened unto thee? or hast thou seen the doors of the shadow of death? (38:17), or Hast thou given the horse strength? hast thou clothed his neck with thunder? (39:19), or Wilt thou also disannul my judgment? wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be righteous? (40:8), or even, speaking of Leviathan, Will he make many supplications unto thee? will he speak soft words unto thee? Will he make a covenant with thee? wilt thou take him for a servant for ever? Wilt thou play with him as with a bird? (41:3 - 5a)
Yes, God’s thoughts are very deep. Perhaps this is why Paul wrote O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! (Romans 11:33)
May the Lord bless and be pleased with your thought life today.
