Minding Your Thoughts

A Biblical Overview of Obtaining and Maintaining a Biblical Thought Life

Matthew 12:25 And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:

I once had a big dog. Her name was Story; she was a chocolate lab. Each and every time I returned home I knew that Story would meet me at the door with one of those rawhide bones in her mouth. We buy her those huge bones with a knot tied on each end. Brand new it is about three feet long and several inches in diameter. She chews on that bone for hours at a time, and when I would come into the house, she would meet me at the door with her bone as if to show me the progress she had made on it during the day.

I don’t know if dogs have thoughts or not. But if they do I know her thoughts when I would come into the house. “Here he comes, I need to find my bone and get by the door so that he will pet me on my head.”  That would be her thought when she heard the garage door open and the sound of those dual magna-flow mufflers on my truck. I know her thoughts only by observing her actions.

But God in Heaven knows my thoughts even before they become actions. On Earth Jesus knew the thoughts of those He came in contact with as proven by so many verses, today’s being one of them. It’s interesting, in the Old Testament sins were considered such as individuals performed sinful actions. In the New Testament however, Jesus taught that if we harbor thoughts of certain sinful actions the thought is equal to the action of performance of that sin (Matthew 5:28).

This is why our thought life is so important. Hence these devotions.
