Minding Your Thoughts
A Biblical Overview of Obtaining and Maintaining a Biblical Thought Life
I Chronicles 29:18 O LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, our fathers, keep this for ever in the imagination of the thoughts of the heart of thy people, and prepare their heart unto thee:
In the closing chapter of David’s life, he asks something very unusual of God. I confess I have never asked the Lord for this. I have never heard anyone ask the Lord God for this. Furthermore, of the many times I have read this passage I never even thought about requesting this of the Lord. But I should have.
David asks the Lord to …keep this for ever in the imagination of the thoughts of the heart of thy people… Beginning at verse 10 of this chapter David the King of Israel is blessing the Lord, he is rehearsing some of the great things God did for Israel in the past and telling the citizens of Israel the blessings that God has prepared for them that love and obey Him. Everything from verse 10 through 17 is the this of today’s verse. That which
David said about the Lord God was so important to him that he asked that the Lord would …keep this for ever in the imagination of the thoughts of the heart of thy people…
Parents could ask the Lord for this for their children, teachers for their pupils, preachers for their congregants, husbands for their wives, and wives for their husbands. The next time there is something so important that those to whom you communicate cannot forget it, try asking the Lord to …keep this for ever in the imagination of the thoughts of the heart of thy people… I wish I knew this when I was in business, while my children were young, earlier in my ministry and throughout my marriage. But one thing is sure, I will not forget, and will certainly put into practice that which we have learned from King David today. It will become a staple of my prayer life, God, please …keep this for ever in the imagination of the thoughts of the heart of thy people…
May the Lord bless and be pleased with your thought life today.
