Minding Your Thoughts

A Biblical Overview of Obtaining and Maintaining a Biblical Thought Life

Galatians 5:10  I have confidence in you through the Lord, that ye will be none otherwise minded: but he that troubleth you shall bear his judgment, whosoever he be.

Otherwise minded,” this is the battleground for many. When tempted to become “Otherwise minded” remember the squirrel that tried to cross the road.

In our neighborhood there are numerous trees. The streets of our neighborhood testify of this as they have names associated with trees. Names like Thousand Oaks, Willow Bend, Branchview, etc. Because of the trees there are also many squirrels. These two go hand in hand. One day while leaving our neighborhood I noticed a squirrel a block or so ahead of me running across the road. He was a fast little bugger.

However, as I drew nearer, he stopped, looked around, and began running back to the side of the road from which he started. Then he stopped again and ran back toward the other side. Then he stopped again; he was running back and forth as fast as he could. By this time I was upon him. He would run to the right, I would steer toward the left, he would then run to the left, I would steer to the right. Finally, I just stopped and honked my horn at him. If any of the neighbors saw this they would have thought that I was driving under some sort of illegal influence.

The squirrel looked at me, scurried back and forth a time or two, and then finally ran back to same side of the road from which he began. He easily could have been run over. Some of my redneck friends in Georgia would have run over him then pick him up, take him home, dress him, and have him for dinner as the main course, of course.

To be “otherwise minded” at the very best will make a person unsure about their course of action, and at very worst may make them roadkill. Flattened by indecision.

May the Lord bless and be pleased with your thought life today.

Dr. William Howe
