Minding Your Thoughts

A Biblical Overview of Obtaining and Maintaining a Biblical Thought Life

2 Samuel 5:6 And the king and his men went to Jerusalem unto the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land: which spake unto David, saying, Except thou take away the blind and the lame, thou shalt not come in hither: thinking, David cannot come in hither.

But he did! The very next verse says Nevertheless David took the strong hold of Zion: the same is the city of David. 2 Samuel 5:7

Once a man I knew picked up two AA batteries and placed them between his index finger and thumb. He then commenced to move both batteries to the opposite hand by only using the index finger and the thumb on the end of each battery without letting go of either at any time. The batteries ended up being held in the crux between those two fingers. Then he put them back into the original hands. He told me what he was going to do before he did it and in my thinking it was impossible. But he did it, and now I can do it.

While checking into a hotel once, a man that I was with complimented the woman desk clerk on her wedding ring. He looked at it closer and held her hand in his as he did. About five minutes later he seemed startled and asked the lady what happened to her ring. She was frantic, it was missing, and we couldn’t find it anywhere. After a while, and although very flustered, she continued checking us in. When it was my friend’s time to pay he reached into his back pocket, produced a wallet that was zipped up, unzipped it, where inside was a pocket that was held closed with a snap. He unsnapped the pocket, pulled out a folded up $100.00 bill, unfolded the bill, and there was her ring. Amazing! If someone had told me this I would be thinking, no way, impossible. But he did it, I saw it!

Try this. Get a glass, a toothpick, a spoon, a fork, and a match. Press the spoon unto the prongs of the fork to make something that looks like a bent propeller. Put the toothpick in between the middle prongs and balance it on the lip of the glass. Then set the part of the toothpick that is in the glass on fire. After that part of the toothpick burns off it will look as if the entire contraption is defying gravity, and it is. You’re probably thinking, won’t work, it can’t be done. But it can, I’ve done it.

You see, many times, in our thinking, some things just can’t be done. Then someone does them. Be careful of being too assured in thinking. Someone may just trick you by pushing a water glass through their class ring. You think it can’t be done, but it can, I know, I’ve done it!

May the Lord bless and be pleased with your thought life today.

Dr. William Howe
