Minding Your Thoughts
A Biblical Overview of Obtaining and Maintaining a Biblical Thought Life
December 2
James 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
It is one thing to be double minded concerning who is going to win the Super Bowl this year. It is one thing to be double minded concerning the best stock in which to invest, or the part of town to live, or the best vehicle to drive. But it is something else altogether to be double minded about the things of God. This will prove to be disastrous.
James gives three things that double minded people should do: draw near to God, cleanse their hands (eliminate all known sin in their lives), and purify their hearts. Perhaps these are consequences of being double minded: being far from God, living in known and open sin, and having impure hearts. Whatever the case, double mindedness can never be recommended concerning the things of God.
Study it out, search it out, and sketch it out if necessary. Do whatever is needed to become single minded concerning things of Christ. For, after all, once again, “Eternity is too long to be wrong.”
May the Lord bless and be pleased with your thought life today.
