Minding Your Thoughts
A Biblical Overview of Obtaining and Maintaining a Biblical Thought Life
Romans 2:3 And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?
In order to understand the full meaning of this verse there is an underlying truth that must be remembered. An underlying truth is one that permeates every aspect of an idea. For example, if a wife loves her husband yet becomes irritated with him, that irritation is mitigated by her love. In other words, she may be mad him yet he knows that she loves him, her love is an underlying truth for their relationship, even though she is mad enough to spit in the skillet while cooking his eggs.
James 2:10 records: For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. This is an underlying truth in the New Testament. Every teaching of the Bible should be interpreted with this, as one of many, underlying truths found in God’s Word. For example, another one is that God loves all people; John 3:16 proves this. Another is that every believer is meant to be an active member of a Bible believing Church which is proven by the entire focus of the New Testament. Christ established the first church, He sent out disciples to begin additional churches, and most of the New Testament books were written to churches. On and on we could list many underlying truths that uphold, support and clarify many New Testament teachings.
Returning to today’s thought. If committing sin in one area makes a person guilty of all, then how can one judge another for committing a certain sin when they are just as guilty. Two verses before today’s verse, verse one, states: Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things. The underlying truth supports the overall teaching of judging others unjustly.
Confused? No need to be, we are all sinners saved by grace, none better, none worse. That is if the Gospel of Jesus Christ has been individually accepted. How then, on what basis then, can we judge others? None!
May the Lord bless and be pleased with your thought life today.
