Minding Your Thoughts
A Biblical Overview of Obtaining and Maintaining a Biblical Thought Life
Psalms 139:17 How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!
The thoughts of God were precious to King David. Are they precious to you? The thoughts of God are found in the Word of God. When a person reads the Bible they read the sum of God’s thoughts. If someone wants to know God’s thoughts about church, read the Bible. To know His thoughts on marriage, read the Bible. About heaven, read the Bible, about salvation, redemption, regeneration, creation, propitiation: read the Bible.
Upon reading the Bible one will become acquainted with God’s thoughts. Someone once said, “When we open the Bible we open the mind of God.” The Lord God of Heaven wants you to know His thoughts, so He has inspired and preserved them in a book for you to have and read. He has a desire for you to know His thoughts. By reading about the thoughts of God on various subjects we are better prepared to conform that which we think to that which He thinks. He is always right; therefore, if we make His thoughts our thoughts we too will be right. “Eternity is too long to be wrong,” meaning that there are some things about this life and the next life that are too important not to be right about them.
I asked my wife once, “What is the most precious thing you own other than your Bible?” she said, “My wedding ring” (boy am I glad I passed up that trophy Axis Buck and used the money for her wedding ring now, this is a story for another day). She owns many things, but that which is most precious to her is the symbol of her marriage not because it is so expensive, but because it represents the love of her life. This is how the thoughts of God are to be to the child of God, precious. Many own a Bible, but how many count its teachings as the precious thoughts of God?
May the Lord bless and be pleased with your thought life today.
