A Biblical Overview of Obtaining and Maintaining a Biblical Thought Life

Jeremiah 6:19 Hear, O earth: behold, I will bring evil upon this people, even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not hearkened unto my words, nor to my law, but rejected it.

The fruit of an apple tree is apples. The fruit of a tomato plant is tomatoes, the fruit of the cow is cows, grape vines yield grapes and so on. Everything on earth reproduces after its own kind. So too are ones thoughts! Thoughts bring forth fruit of whatsoever thoughts they are.

Thoughts of gratitude bring forth the fruit of thankfulness. Thoughts of earnest bring forth fruit of industry. Thoughts of holiness and righteousness bring forth fruit of holy and righteous actions. Thoughts of lust, deceit, and sinful pleasures, bring forth fruit in like manner. The fruit in a person’s life begins in seed form as thoughts. Strong marriages, commitment to the Lord, obedience to Biblical commands, love, mercy, grace, productive work habits, hospitality and the like all begin with thoughts of those things.

The Lord God, through the prophet Jeremiah stated that thoughts bring forth fruit, and as nature proves the fruit of thoughts are in like manner. Many people wish that they had the supernatural ability to know others thoughts; they want to be mind readers. This can be done easily enough. Just inspect their fruit. In fact, Jesus said in Matthew 7:20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. The fruit of a person’s life will reveal their thoughts. If a person thinks about rebellion, sooner or later they will be rebellious. If a person thinks about church in a positive way, they will be active in a good church. If a person has thoughts about working hard to earn that which they need and want, they will work hard to accomplish such. If a person has thoughts of sin, sin will become evident in their life (that is unless they repent of the thoughts of sin before they become actions).

The tomorrows of your life will, in large part, be filled with the fruit of the thoughts that you have today.
