Minding Your Thoughts

A Biblical Overview of Obtaining and Maintaining a Biblical Thought Life

Psalm 139:23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:

Of a truth God knows the thoughts of every person. Yet, King David invited the Lord to search him and know his thoughts. It seems that the king wanted to make sure there was no thought in his mind with which the Lord God would not be pleased. In the very next verse David says, And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Asking the Lord to know your thoughts is like inviting company over to your house. When company is coming over the house is picked up, cleaned, dusted, vacuumed, and straightened up. The more important the company, the more earnestly the house is cleaned. Likewise, it is only normal that if God is invited to search the thoughts of one’s mind, that mind would be cleaned up through self-examination.

Try it. Ask God to search all your thoughts and see if one or two or more thoughts that need to be corrected pop up. They probably will. These are the thoughts that need to be cleaned. He already knows they are there, but do you?

May the Lord bless and be pleased with your thought life today.

Dr. William Howe
