Daily Reading: Ezekiel 23-24

Ezekiel 24:18

So I spake unto the people in the morning: and at even my wife died; and I did in the morning as I was commanded.

The Word of the Lord came to Ezekiel relating that his wife would die suddenly. The Lord instructs the prophet, that when this happens, that he was not to weep, cry, or even mourn her death. He did as he was instructed.

This was a sign to the people of Jerusalem. Remember, there was no written Word of God at this time. No complete Bible. There was no indwelling of the Holy Ghost. Therefore, the Lord resorted to unusual means to convey His message. The overthrow of Jerusalem was to the Israelites the desire of their eyes, the same phrase the Lord used for Ezekiel’s wife in verse 16. As the prophet was to endure the loss of his wife so too were the Jews to endure the overthrow of Jerusalem.

Please do not let this pass by too quickly. Put yourself in Ezekiel’s place of losing his wife yet, the next day serve the Lord without the proper trappings of mourning. Put yourself in the shoes of the Israelites. Going into bondage and being commanded by God to keep a right spirit and endure it without complaint or mourning.

Sometimes in life, difficulties hit. Upon those times God’s children are not to be like those who have no hope. They are to be overcomers, instant in season and out of season as Paul wrote to Timothy. This is not easy, but it does glorify our Father in Heaven and illustrates faith to those who have no faith.

Until tomorrow, live for Christ today.
