Daily Reading: Zechariah 8-14
Zechariah 8:3
Thus saith the LORD; I am returned unto Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and Jerusalem shall be called a city of truth; and the mountain of the LORD of hosts the holy mountain.
God our Father has always had a vision for Jerusalem. That vision is partially communicated through the prophet Zechariah in 8:3-8
He will return to Zion.
He will dwell in the center of Jerusalem.
That city will be called the city of truth.
It will be like a mountain, even the mountain of the Lord.
Old men and women will dwell there (the promise of long life).
Boys and girls will safely play in the streets of the city.
If this is marvelous in the eyes of the people of the city, imagine how marvelous it is in the eyes of the Lord.
He will save His people from the east to the west.
He will bring them to Jerusalem, and they shall dwell there, with Him, in truth and righteousness.
According to historians this has not happened…yet. But it will. All this and more will take place when the Lord returns. Yes, much will happen between now and then, but, well, Zechariah said it like this: And the Lord shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one Lord, and his name one. (Zechariah 14:9) In fact the final eight chapters of Zechariah (7-14) tell of the Messiah’s rejection, His death, and of His coming Kingdom.
Yes, God has a plan. He always has and always will. His plans are perfect and always carried out to the letter. There is no foe that can defeat Him, no problems that can derail Him, and no issues that will stop Him. He is great, He is perfect, He is love, He is truth, He is the power of the World. Someday, every knee shall bow before Him in acknowledgment of Him as God, King, Lord, Savior, and so many other attributes that, as John the Apostle said, the world could not contain all that should be written about Him (John 21:25).
No one knows exactly all the details about the coming Lord’s reign on the earth. But we know enough. Zechariah and other of His prophets have given us enough. Enough to stir the imagination, encourage the heart, engage the spirit, and thrill the soul. Yes, a thousand times yes, the future is bright for the people of God of all ages!
