Daily Reading: Joel 1-3

Joel 2:28

And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:

Joel is a prophetic book about the coming judgment upon Israel and the harvest of souls during the church age. The time of his ministry was somewhere between 840-756 BC, meaning he was in-between Elijah / Elisha and Isaiah. He could have been a contemporary and even could have known Jonah.

On the day of Pentecost in Acts chapter two his prophecy about the coming of the Holy Spirit was fulfilled as stated by Peter. But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel. Today, right now, we are still living within the time of the prophecies of Joel. The Holy Ghost is at work, a harvest of souls is being gathered, and the work of the ministry of Christ circles the globe. Yet, however, there is coming an end.

In Luke 21:24 the Lord Jesus stated the following: And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled. Today we are in the midst of this time called “The times of the Gentiles.” This time will end with the Battle of Armageddon in the place that Joel calls “the valley of Jehoshaphat.” (3:2-18)

Dear reader, know this, in 1967 Israel won its independence and once again gained control of Jerusalem. That marked the beginning of the end of the “times of the Gentiles.” This means that time is growing short. Soon a set of events will commence that will forever change the very nature of this world. It’s an exciting time to be alive, active, and faithful to Christ. Now is not a time to slip away or be deluded into worldliness and carnality. Now is a time to be strong in and through Christ and His Spirit. After all, consider this one promise that Jesus Himself gives to the faithful in Revelation 2:26:

And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:

As the old song says “Oh how I want to be in that number…”

Until tomorrow, live for Christ today.
