The Bible Edge
Everyone needs an Edge, Believers can have a Bible Edge
Mark 12:41
And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much.
The widow’s two mites. An amazing testimony of one woman’s great faith. This story has amazed readers for thousands of years. It is a touching story that reaches into the deepest depths of trust, way down deep in a person’s soul.
As the Lord watched the individuals of His day cast their money into the treasury, He observed a remarkable thing. A poor widow gave two mites which was the least of all copper coins, probably less than a US penny in value. While her contribution may have been small in comparison to others, it was greater than all others. Of this the Lord is clear, consider His words in verse 44:For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living."
She gave the Lord her entire living. Everything. There was nothing left for her. She gave it all. Whenever I preach on this touching story I always pause and take a poll of the congregation. I ask for a show of hands “Who believes that somehow the Lord took care of this poor widow woman?” Without exception every hand is raised. Then I ask, “Why wouldn’t He take care of you?”
Of this story Matthew Henry wrote, “It is so rare to find any who would not blame this widow, that we cannot expect to find many who will do like to her.”
Of all the people I hope to meet in Heaven, I’d like to meet her. Unquestionably her story is amazing.
A personal story could be inserted here, but some would probably take me to task for self-glory, or some sort of hidden pride. So, let it suffice to say this. You cannot out give God. That is an edge, a Bible edge for life and the living of it.
