Daily Reading: Ezekiel 40-42
In the five and twentieth year of our captivity, in the beginning of the year, in the tenth day of the month, in the fourteenth year after that the city was smitten, in the selfsame day the hand of the LORD was upon me, and brought me thither.
Dear reader, upon reading the final eight chapters of the prophecy of Ezekiel confusion will commence, but be not dismayed. Scholars throughout the centuries have struggled with this portion of the Holy Scriptures. Some say it means one thing, some another, some argue it is a picture of Christ, the true temple, some the bodies of the New Testament believers, some the literal reconstructed millennial temple in Jerusalem, some even other things. But know this, we may not be able to understand all that this great being showed Ezekiel today…however one day we will. Then it will all make sense.
Remember this, please in all your remembrance remember this. Our salvation is not based or dependent upon our understanding. It is faith based, not knowledge based. By faith we believe that Jesus is the believer’s temple (John 2:21). By faith we believe and know that our bodies are His temple on earth today (I Corinthians 6:19). By faith we believe that there will be a reconstructed millennial temple (mentioned throughout the book of the Revelation). By faith we believe that The Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple in eternity (Revelation 21:22). Therein perhaps Ezekiel sees all this in his vision, which he faithfully relayed to Israel, of which we read today.
Yes, the next eight chapters will be easy to read but difficult to understand. Praise God that our salvation is not built on understanding but rather on faith. For it is by faith that one receives the free gift of eternal salvation through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. His death, burial, and resurrection being accepted by faith appropriates eternal life. Of which, He is the true Temple, the place where the sacrifice was made, instruction is received, correction in wrong thinking takes place, where prayers are answered, and fellowship is extended. Therefore read, enjoy the journey gleaning that which you can, and trust your Father in Heaven to reveal the truth of all that it means in His due season.
Until tomorrow, live for Christ today.
