Daily Reading: Matthew 11-12
Matthew 12:30
He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.
There are none that are undecided when it comes to Jesus Christ and His work. There are those for Him, and there are those opposed to Him. One way to identify which side a person is on is their work, that which they do. Do they gather with Him or scatter from Him?
But gathereth what? To this pastor there are at least two principles that are continually stressed throughout the New Testament. One is that God’s people would gather as a congregation on a routine basis in their churches. Two is the work of evangelism, meaning winning the lost to Christ. It could be said that believers in Christ are to gather together so that they may then go out and gather souls to the Lord through His Gospel.
The first phase of today’s verse speaks of being with Him. If a person is not with Him they are by default against Him. Those that are with Him will also be with others who are with Him. By being together they praise the Lord, learn of Him, encourage one another, receive training in the Scriptures, pray, and so much more. It is wonderful to be with Him and to be with others who are with Him.
Those that are with Him are known. In Acts 4:13 the very enemies of Christ had to admit that Peter and John had been with Jesus. They were with Him physically; today we are with Him spiritually. Or can be. Those that are with Him gather unto Him.
In the world today, there are those with Him and those against Him. Those that gather with Him and those that scatter from Him.
