Daily Reading: Luke 8-9
And Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many others, which ministered unto him of their substance.
Joanna, Susanna, and many others ministered to the Lord of their substance. I wonder if they had rewards awaiting them in Heaven. I wonder if the Lord answered their prayers when they needed something in this life. I wonder if today they regret giving their substance to Him.
Hey, I wonder if they heard the Lord say, Give, and it shall be given unto you, good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again. (Luke 6:38) We don’t know if they heard Him say this or not, but no doubt they lived in light of it, they lived to see the truth of it, they lived the reality of it. They are champions for the cause of Christ, for they served Him of their substance.
Notice…of their substance. Not someone else’s substance, not the substance that the Lord miraculously dropped in their laps, but of their substance. They had some substance, how much we do not know, of what type we do not know, how was it earned we do not know, how did they use it for Him we do not know. But we do know that they ministered unto him of their substance.
You know, there is not a person on the face of the earth that couldn’t do this. Every person has substance. Perhaps it is one of the three “T’s: talent, time or treasure. They can minister unto Him with their substance. How? Jesus tells us how in Matthew 25:40: …Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
Yes, anyone can minister unto Him today of their substance. That is if they will. By doing so, they receive all the promises, honor, and rewards that Joanna, Susanna, and many others have and will receive. Now, that is something to think about.
Until tomorrow, live for Christ today.
