Daily Reading: Luke 2-3
And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
When the angel of the Lord appeared unto the shepherds in the field, he had an important message. This message began with the words behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. If asked what I consider my focus to be for preaching and teaching God’s Word I would say, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. This is the message; that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.
Not long ago a nationally known pastor was on a network news program in which he was asked a certain question. I do not remember the question, I do not remember the answer, but I do remember thinking, “That would have been a perfect time to share the good news of Jesus Christ!” In a day and age in which hope is diminished, the future looks bleak, the news is overwhelmingly negative, and the eternal souls of individuals hang in the balance, we as Christian believers in Jesus Christ have good tidings of great joy to share with any and all!
In Hebrews 8:12 this “good tiding” is phrased like this: For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more. This is just one of thousands of great, wonderful, and good tidings our Bible promises those who come to Christ through faith. The Biblical Christian message is first and foremost good tidings of great joy to any and all who will. Ask the average person on the street, “What, to you, is the overall message of Christians to the world?” I wonder what their response would be. If it is anything less than “good tidings of great joy” we have come short of the goal.
In case this has slipped your mind, or if you never knew it, consider this! The word Gospel, in its broadest and most simple form means Good News. The angels had …good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. And so do we…or we should.
Until tomorrow, live for Christ today.
