Minding Your Thoughts

A Biblical Overview of Obtaining and Maintaining a Biblical Thought Life

Isaiah 17:10 Because thou hast forgotten the God of thy salvation, and hast not been mindful of the rock of thy strength, therefore shalt thou plant pleasant plants, and shalt set it with strange slips:

Of all the controversies that the Lord God has with His people there can be none more heartbreaking than that they forget Him and are not being mindful of Him. No mother wants to be forgotten by her children, it would be unconscionable for her children to not be mindful of her. No father wants to be forgotten by his children, it would be unconscionable for his children to not be mindful of him. Likewise, God in Heaven does not want to be forgotten by His children, nor does He want His children to not be mindful of Him.

He is the Rock of our strength. He was the Rock in the wilderness wanderings of the Jews; they drank from that Rock which brought forth life giving water. It is Jesus Christ that is called the chief corner stone (I Peter 2:6). He is the Rock of our salvation. No less than ten times the Scriptures tell us such. King David wrote, He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved. (Psalm 62:2) David was a man of uncommon physical and spiritual strength. Yet, he was mindful of the Rock of His strength, the Lord God.

To face the uncertain winds of theology (so called) today one needs strength, spiritual strength. To deal with family issues, health alarms, societal problems, crime, the shaky financial climate, and the very changing of the fabric of our nation, people need strength. They need unusual strength, amazing strength, enduring strength, mental strength, moral strength, physical strength, and spiritual strength. This strength for the Christian is Jesus Christ, the Rock of our salvation.

The winds may blow, the storm may rage, the waters may rise, the houses around us may fall, but for those who have built their house on the Rock, those who are ever mindful of the Rock of their strength, their house will not fall. For they have learned how to tap into His strength. Paul told us how, …for when I am weak, then am I strong. (II Corinthians 12:10). Through Peter, Jesus has invited us to cast our every care on Him because He cares for us (I Peter 5:7). Why? Because as the Rock of our strength Christ can do for us that which we cannot do for ourselves. He can give us strength even in the midst of our weakness. Amazing!

May the Lord bless and be pleased with your thought life today.
