Minding Your Thoughts

A Biblical Overview of Obtaining and Maintaining a Biblical Thought Life

Psalm 115:12 The LORD hath been mindful of us: he will bless us; he will bless the house of Israel; he will bless the house of Aaron.

Someone once said “The entire Bible was not written to you, but it was written for you.”  Such is the case with today’s verse. This verse proves that the Lord is mindful of the house of Israel and the house of Aaron. Someone may say “This verse is speaking exclusively of Israel and the priests” (in that Aaron and his offspring were Levites, the priestly tribe, the tribe of Israel from which the priests were ordained). How does this relate to us today?

While this verse was not written directly to us, it was also written for us. It means that the Lord is mindful of us today. That is the “us” that have been born into the family of God through faith. Let’s let the Bible prove it. The Apostle Paul, writing to Gentiles stated: And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree; (Romans 11:17) He is speaking of Gentiles being grafted into the vine (Jesus), the same vine from which Israel sprouted. Concerning the house of Aaron, the priestly family, John the beloved wrote in Revelation 1:6: And hath made us kings and priests unto God his Father: …  Therefore, believers today are grafted into the house of Israel, and the house of Aaron (there are other such passages which prove these assertions).

Now, concerning God being mindful of these, consider this, Israel was always found to be guilty of backsliding from God. The entire Old Testament is filled with stories of this nation’s rebellion toward the Lord God. The book of Judges alone relates over and over again that Israel turned from their obedience to the Lord. Each Judge listed in this book was promoted by the Lord to bring that nation from bondage to the place of divine blessing. Also consider Aaron; he was the man who formed the golden calf making the Israelites worship it as the god which brought them out of Egypt (Exodus 32).

I highlight these because someone may read this and think, “God is not mindful of me, I am not worthy for Him to do anything but judge me.”  Neither Israel nor Aaron deserved God to be mindful of them, but He was…and is. Yes, He chastised them according to their rebellion, but such is it between God and His children. Even Hebrews 12 discusses this at length.

God is mindful of you. He desires the best for you. He wants to put you in the place of blessing. He loves you, He is mindful of you. Of this there is no doubt! The only question is: are you mindful of Him?

May the Lord bless and be pleased with your thought life today.
