Thank You Lord
Matthew 7:29
For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.
In these last four devotions on the subject “Thank you Lord” let’s visit four attributes of Christ for which we should give thanks but probably do not, at least not often.
He taught. That phrase He taught is used fifteen times in the New Testament; each one is referring to the Lord Jesus Christ. Thank you, Lord, for your teaching. He taught. Just consider the topics that He taught about.
Creation: Mark 10:6 But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female.
Hell: Luke 16:23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
Eternal life: John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Church: Matthew 18:17 And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican.
Judgment: John 5:22 For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:
Discipleship: Luke 14:27 And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.
How to treat enemies: Matthew 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
On and on the list could go. Jesus was using words that could be understood to teach spiritual truths that could not be seen. He was proverbially teaching the blind what a sunrise looked like. Impossible! You bet it is, but He is the Great Doer of the impossible. He taught the impossible to understand with simple to understand. He was the great communicator, He was the great teacher. Thank Him for all He taught, even His very last teaching in Revelation 22:20 wherein He taught…Surely I come quickly. .. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.
