The Bible Edge
Thank You Lord
Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Have you thanked the Lord God for the Word of God? Consider that title, “The Word of God.” Actually, the Word of God is made up of 66 books, 1,189 chapters, 31,173 verses, and 774,746 words. These all combine to communicate God’s Word to humanity. It was written by over 40 human authors, over 1,600 years, as inspired by the Holy Ghost of God. It is a divine book that has been revered in castles, prisons, and everywhere in between. Individuals that we collectively admire have some choice words to say about the Word of God.
Abraham Lincoln, “I believe the Bible is the best gift God has ever given man. All the good from the Savior of the world is communicated to us through this book.”
George Washington, “It is impossible to govern the world without God and the Bible.”
Napoleon Bonaparte, “The Bible is no mere book, but a living creature, with a power that conquers all that oppose it.”
Ulysses S. Grant, “The Bible is the sheet-anchor of your liberties; write its precepts in your hearts, and practice them in your lives.”
Robert E. Lee, “In all my perplexities and distresses, the Bible has never failed to give me light and strength.”
John Quincy Adams, “So great is my veneration for the Bible that the earlier my children begin to read it the more confident will be my hope that they will prove useful citizens of their country and respectable members of society. I have for many years made it a practice to read through the Bible once every year.”
The list could go on and on. Big questions like: where did we come from, what are we to be doing in this life, what awaits us after death, and thousands more are answered in the pages of the Holy Bible. God’s Word gives us God’s Word. That is a simple statement that is overlooked so often. Please do not let that statement’s simplicity rob its profundity. God’s Word is God’s Word. Not the preacher’s word, or the church’s word, or a parent’s word, nor the government, soothsayer, or prognosticator. It is God’s Word. His Word.
So, give Him thanks for His Word. After all, it is His Word!
