Daily Reading: Acts 1-3

Acts 1:7

And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

This is Jesus speaking. He is responding to the question asked in Acts 1:6. Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? His response? It is not for you to know… In a day and age such as we find ourselves living in today, it is almost unheard of that it is not for us to know. As soon as someone says they don’t know…numerous others speak up stating definitively that they do know. This is caused by the desire to be seen as wise, smarter, and somehow more spiritual with the ability to see the unseen, know the unknowable, and solve the deep mysteries of the spiritual world.

Yet, Christ said…It is not for you to know. Many, it seems, desire to be held up as prophets today, claiming that God has shown them this or that. Then, when the “this or that” fails to come to pass as they predicted they conveniently forget the rules of prophecy as given in Scripture. Frankly, there are some things that we do not know and cannot know.

In fact, there is something that even the Lord Jesus does not know as He testified in Mark 13:32. But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father. So, beware of false prophets, in fact beware of any prophecies, so called, that are not clearly communicated in the simple Word of God. After all, 2 Peter 1:20 tells us: Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. This means that all the Lord God in heaven wants us to know, He has given to any and all who read His Scriptures. There will always be those who cloak themselves in the robe of special knowledge and wisdom that is not available to the everyday believer. Of these, be extremely careful.

But someone may say, “Doesn’t God give young men visions and old men dreams?” Yes, He does, Acts 2:17 proves such. But those visions and dreams are always in agreement with the revealed Word of God as found in the Bible. Meaning that in those areas wherein the Lord says It is not for you to know… it will never be known regardless of those who claim to know. For example, in Revelation 10:4 John was prohibited from writing the things the seven thunders uttered, for they are sealed. No matter how much we may want to know what they uttered, until it happens it is impossible to know.

Stick with the Bible for it is the complete repository of all that our Father in heaven allows us to know, and walk with Him by faith. He will direct your individual steps in carrying out His Word and Will on a personal level.

Until tomorrow, live for Christ today.
