Daily Reading: John 16-18
Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
That’s you! If you are in Christ, if you have believed upon Him, if you accepted Him as Messiah, if He is your sacrifice, if He is your Savior. If you have been born again of the Holy Spirit, if you have come to Him in faith, if His grace abides upon you, if you have asked and received His mercy. If so … Jesus prayed for you! He not only prayed for those that walked with Him during His earthly ministry, but He also prayed for all those who would come to believe on Him through their word. That’s you.
The Lord gave them the Gospel, they believed, or at least some did. They, specifically the Apostles, circled the known world with that gospel giving it freely to others. Some believed, they told others, who told others, and here we are today, the offspring of their efforts. The Bible, God’s Holy Word, is the gospel, the good news for fallen people. Some of the Apostles penned books of the Bible. Later Paul, being an apostle born out of due season, wrote many books of the New Testament testifying of the things the Lord taught Him.
But this is not a lesson on the Apostles, this is a reminder that the Lord Jesus Christ prayed for you. Not only that! In John 20:29 Jesus said of you: ...Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed. So you have been blessed by the Lord Himself. He has prayed for you specifically and He has blessed you. But that is not all, He is also your great intercessor. Yes indeed... Romans 8:34 ...It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
Jesus has prayed for you, He has blessed you, and He makes intercession for you to the Father. Now, that is something for which to be thankful, and in which to find comfort!
Until tomorrow, live for Christ today.
