Rēad to Read …Again
Daily Reading: Luke 19-20
Luke 20:35
But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage:
In today’s reading Jesus Himself gives six facts about the resurrection.
One: Those who will be resurrected to go to “that world” (the heavenly) are those that are accounted worthy. Jesus visits this thought again in the very next chapter, Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man. (Luke 21:36) Being worthy is the aim, the goal, the purpose in living a clean holy life. But remember, being worthy is not earned by good works, it is just proven and observed by good works. The prodigal learned this, he was a son before his riotous living, he came to the place wherein he thought he was not worthy to be a son. But upon returning home, he learned he was still a son. His worthiness was of the bloodline, not in his actions. Those deemed to be worthy are those who have placed their life into Him who is worthy.
Two: Those who are resurrected are no longer married nor will they be.
Three: The resurrected will never die again (36a).
Four: They are equal to the angels (36b).
Five: They are the children of God, being resurrected as such (36c).
Six: For all, evidently speaking of the resurrected, live unto him (38).
Given these facts, a few conclusions can be drawn.
One: Be worthy. It is a personal choice. In light of eternal life, being worthy through Christ is the only option. Paul and Barnabas knew this to be true, Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles. Acts 13:46
Two: Whatever love, devotion, and fellowship a married couple desires to share, share it now, in this life.
Three: Since all the resurrected will “live unto him” eternally, live unto Him today and every day. This as opposed to living unto self.
This is some of that which Jesus taught and preached (see the first verse of Luke 20).
