Daily Reading: Nehemiah 3-6

Nehemiah 6:14

My God, think thou upon Tobiah and Sanballat according to these their works, and on the prophetess Noadiah, and the rest of the prophets, that would have put me in fear.

The problem was that I was in Dallas. No one should have to go to that awful place. I'm trying to get a bumper sticker for my truck that reads, "If I die in Dallas, drag my dead body back to Fort Worth" but I can't find anyone to print it. But there I was, in Dallas. Driving carefully, driving within the confines of the speed limit, kind of, driving in my lane, bothering nobody. It was time for my exit, I put on my turn indicator, as I always sometimes do; and began my exit. Then it happened. Another truck zoomed in front of me and slammed on its brakes. The driver saluted me as sometimes drivers do, then he sped up, then he slammed on his brakes again. He was upset!

Usually I know the reason why someone is upset with me on the road. Afterall, I am the chief proponent of the "Never give an inch" philosophy of driving. For in this huge metroplex, especially in Dallas, people always want your space, the space you earned and rightly possess, before you are ready to give it up. Like I say, I usually know why other drivers get upset. This time, I had not a clue. Not one! But here it was, a person was trying to kill me, that's what he was trying to do. Or at least make me wreck my wonderful, perfectly made, and number one in class, Ford F-250.

I had two choices. One was not really a choice at all. The other one, well since I was about to preach in a Bible college, the second choice seemed more spiritual. So, I prayed. I prayed somewhat like Nehemiah prayed. He said My God, think upon... then he listed the enemies. I prayed this: "Dear Lord please reward this Dallas driver with the same courtesy that he displayed toward me." The Lord knew what I meant, just as He knew what Nehemiah meant. Which was...."Lord get them."

I don't know how the Lord dealt with that crazy driver. But I do know how the Lord dealt with those who opposed Nehemiah. He did not let them get the upper hand. For the people had a mind to work, they did the work, and they finished the wall. In my case, I arrived safely and preached as it was appointed me.

Now, after reading this devotion you have an insight as to the reasons why my wife told me to remove my bumper sticker that read, "Follow me to Friendly Lane Baptist Church." She did not want the other drivers to know where I could be found. Sissy her.

Until tomorrow, drive on the roads like Jesus would drive. Please pray for me that I would do the same.
