Minding Your Thoughts

A Biblical Overview of Obtaining and Maintaining a Biblical Thought Life

Isaiah 14:24  The LORD of hosts hath sworn, saying, Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand:

Some say, “You are what you eat;” others say, “You are what you think.”  Perhaps there is a thread of truth in both sayings. The Lord said clearly, Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; (Isaiah 14:24). Goals in life are very important. In sales we were taught to write out our goals and read them every day. If we did this, we were guaranteed that every goal would be reached. By reading the goal daily we would set our minds on reaching them, and they would be fulfilled. Sometimes they were realized and sometimes they were not. It is not our thinking about reaching a goal that makes it come to pass; it is our doing what we think that causes goals to be reached.

One day a businessman passed by a boy playing in a mud puddle. The mud was everywhere, on his clothes, in his shoes, in his hair, all over his face, everywhere. The man asked the boy, “What are you trying to do.”  The boy simply responded, “I’m not trying to do anything, I’m doing it.”  Many fail because they never get past the thought process and into the actual doing of the work that will accomplish the goal.

The thoughts of God came to pass and will come to pass in the future because He does the work needed to accomplish them. So too can we. Jesus said in John 14:12, Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. How can we do greater works than our Savior? I’m not sure how many steps there are because each task is different, but they all have in common the first step and that is the dream, the plan, the goal, the desire, the thought. Everything that you see today began as a thought in someone’s mind; your car, house, workplace, the roads, your meals, everything. If you are (or if you will become) what you think, what are you, what is your future?

May the Lord bless and be pleased with your thought life today.
