Daily Reading: II Chronicles 9-12

II Chronicles 9:7 Happy are thy men, and happy are these thy servants, which stand continually before thee, and hear thy wisdom.

Are you happy? I mean really...are you happy? You, dear child of God, you, the son or the daughter adopted into the greatest family the world will ever know, you, Christian, are you happy? Happiness, to me, has a two-fold influence.

One, happiness influences you. Think about it, your happiness influences you. Your facial expressions, your posture, the way you feel, the way you dress, the spring in your step, and your overall well-being are all impacted by the happiness in your soul. The soul, in my estimation, is where happiness begins. A person may have perfect skin, perfect hair, perfect physique, a perfect life outwardly; but if from the soul they are not happy, they will not be happy. Again, in my estimation this is the underlying message of that which Jesus said in Matthew 16:26: For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? The condition of the soul affects the entire person; for the soul is the person. This is why some can walk through difficulties and still be happy to the core. Their soul is healthy, happy, and content. Is yours?

Two, happiness influences those around you. The happiness of the servants of Solomon influenced the Queen of Sheba. She did not believe the reports that reached her ears about Solomon and his greatness, until she came to visit. She heard him, saw the wealth, and specifically saw the happiness of the men and women who served him. Their apparel, their attention to detail, every aspect spoke of greatness. She was impressed. His servants were happy! Has it occurred to you that others need to see your happiness? Parents continually hope and pray that their children will be happy. Loving spouses constantly concern themselves with the other’s happiness. Employers desire that their employees are happy. On and on it goes. A person never knows how their true happiness will affect another, but they need to know that it will, it has, and it does.

Let's close where we began. Are you happy? You need it for yourself and others need to see it in your life. Why go through life unhappy? If you are a child of God, trust all He says to you. His promises are many, find the ones which speak to you and actually believe them by faith. You can be happy. Not a put on, two faced, make pretend happiness. A true abiding, deep in your soul, and a smile on your face happiness that knows no bounds, cannot be quenched, and will never be stolen away. True you can lose it, for it is in your power to be happy or not. That dear reader will have to be dealt with on another day and probably by someone much wiser than I.

Until tomorrow, be happy in Christ today.
