Daily Reading: Deuteronomy 17-20

Deuteronomy 20:4

For the LORD your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.

So, what is this to you? You have no enemies that you are at war with, right? Wrong!

We all have a common enemy. Every living person does. Death is its name. The above verse promises Israel that the Lord God would go with them, fight for them, and save them. But do we have a similar promise? Yes, a thousand times yes!

1 Corinthians 15:26 states: The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. That's not all! Paul goes on to write: So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. (I Corinthians 15:54-57)

God's promise to Israel is the same as His promise to us: He will go with us, He will fight for us, and He will save us from that horrible life-long enemy we all face: death. What does He ask of us in return? The last verse of I Corinthians 15 tells us...Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord. It's just that simple.

Until tomorrow, live for Christ today.
