Daily Reading: Judges 6-7

Judges 6:13

And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the LORD be with us, why then is all this befallen us? and where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt? but now the LORD hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.

Doubt. This is where the great Gideon started. He doubted the Lord's power, he doubted the Lord's ability, he doubted the Lord's presence. Not only this, but he also blamed the Lord for Israel's being overrun by the Midianites. This man Gideon seems to have the same spirit many have today. Where is the Lord? Why has all this befallen us? Where are His miracles that we have heard about? Why has He forsaken us? Why has God put us in this bad place?

If you or I were sent out to find a champion of faith to deliver our nation, a man like Moses or Joshua, Gideon would probably not be our first candidate. After all, he was hiding out from the Midianites threshing wheat, this is not exactly the place we would find a military leader. But the Angel of the Lord said to this man Gideon, The Lord is with thee thou mighty man of valour. God the Father saw something in Gideon that man could not see. Not only could men not see all that God could see; Gideon himself could not see all that he was and would become.

As you read the story of Gideon remember where he came from, for his story is the story of every person that God uses in this life. Anyone who does anything for the Lord God begins where Gideon did. Doubtful. Can God use me? Where is God? Can God do today that which He did yesteryear? These and many other questions arise in the heart and soul of every person when they first come to Christ and when they are promoted to any type of leadership. Whether it is teaching a Sunday School class, running a bus route, singing in the choir, being an usher welcoming people into the church building, being a pastor, missionary, evangelist, and/or being the spouse of one. They all start the same place. Can God use me?

Remember this, every vessel that God uses for His honor and glory started off as a broken vessel; one that Almighty God had to repair, put back together, strengthen, teach, lead, and show His power in their lives. Just like He did with Gideon. He was broken when God called him, but the Lord showed this man His power with the offering and then double sign of the fleece.

Gideon went on to accomplish great things for God, things beyond human comprehension. All because he was honest with God about his doubtful spirit. God proved Himself strong, and Gideon judged Israel for forty years in relative peace and prosperity.

Know this, as the Lord God from Heaven used Gideon, He can and will use you. You can do things that you don't even know you are capable of if you just let God prove Himself strong on your behalf. Once you fully trust His leadership and power, instead of living in doubt and fear,...well it has not yet been seen all that God can do for you and through you. Therefore, thou person of mighty valor, come out of hiding, end the doubts, and cast away the fear, prove God and His Word, then perform great things for His namesake through faith and faith alone.

Until tomorrow, live for Christ today.
