Daily Reading: Joshua 16-18

Joshua 17:3

But Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, had no sons, but daughters: and these are the names of his daughters, Mahlah, and Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.

The daughters of Zelophehad. Their story teaches us a great lesson. Way back in Numbers 27:1-7 the reader is introduced to these five ladies. Their father died in the wilderness, but not because he was part of that whole Korah mess. When he died, he had no sons. His daughters though thought it through and were concerned that if they were not able to inherit a lot of land, their father’s family name would be lost. They came to Moses and asked him about this issue. He talked to the Lord about it, and the Lord made a way for daughters to inherit that which should go to their fathers but with a few conditions. Now, forty years later they came to Joshua and, well here is how the Bible tells it in Joshua 17:4. And they came near before Eleazar the priest, and before Joshua the son of Nun, and before the princes, saying, The LORD commanded Moses to give us an inheritance among our brethren. Therefore according to the commandment of the LORD he gave them an inheritance among the brethren of their father. Therefore, Zelophehad's daughters inherited his portion of the Promise Land.

Herein is a wonderful lesson for all children of God. Bring your concerns to the Lord, get a promise from Him (His Word), and boldly claim it.

After all, Psalm 23 does say: The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want... Meaning that the Lord is our Shepherd, and He will provide every one of our wants.

Also, Philippians 4:19 states: But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

And Psalm 37:4 promises: Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

All of these promises are conditional, of course, just like the promise to the daughters of Zelophehad were. But notice, God's eternal Word states that He will provide all of the needs, wants, and desires of His children once they meet the conditions. Amen, and Amen!

Until tomorrow, live for Christ today.
