Daily Reading: Deuteronomy 6-8

Deuteronomy 8:18

But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.

A great truth such as this cannot be overlooked. Remember, it is God that gives you the power to get wealth. Someone may say to this, "That is a great truth, but it is not for me because I am not wealthy!" But notice, the verse does not say that He will give you power to become wealthy, but rather to get wealth. Wealth is that which a person obtains in order to live. Today, we have a skewed mindset about wealth. Yes, there are those who become wealthy, they somehow gain more wealth than they need to live, put it in store, put it to investments, and gain much wealth. But, know this, if you only obtain enough wealth to live today. If you have enough for right now, and tomorrow you will have enough for tomorrow, and for all the tomorrows of your life, you are wealthy. No doubt the concept of wealth can be debated. But forget not this one Bible truth, it is God that gives you the power to get wealth.

The Bible says such often. I Samuel 2:7 states: The LORD maketh poor, and maketh rich: he bringeth low, and lifteth up. Proverbs 10:22 The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it. Personally, I think that James 1:25 speaks of this truth. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. For being blessed in one’s deed, in this context, certainly speaks of both spiritual and physical blessings for there is no exclusion otherwise. In other words, a person who stays in their Bible (the perfect law of liberty) and continues in it, who does not forget it's righteous teachings, and does, works, that which it teaches, will be blessed in the work.

Nonetheless, getting wealth, any measure of wealth, is empowered by the Lord God. Of such a thought we should always remember. Not only remember but live in light of it. In other words to credit our Father in Heaven for such earthly blessings. After all, it is He that gives you the power to get wealth. By the way, a worthwhile mental calisthenic for any person would be to exercise the brain by considering the word power as it is used in this verse. For of a truth, all wealth is created through the expenditure of power, which God gives to individuals in various measures and in a multiplicity of energies. But a thought such as this is beyond the scope of this simple devotion. So…

Until tomorrow, live for Christ today.
