Daily Reading: Job 24-28
My righteousness I hold fast, and will not let it go: my heart shall not reproach me so long as I live.
Have you ever had your own heart reproach you? I have, probably you have too. It is one thing when someone else reproaches you, that can be argued with, dismissed, and probably easily forgotten. But to have your own heart reproach you, that cannot be ignored. It is there, always goading, always condemning, always causing an unrest in the soul and spirit. The heart reproach of one's own heart must be dealt with. Like a small stone in one's shoe, the longer the wait to fix it the more discomfort it causes.
Job determined to live his life in such a way as to hold fast his righteousness so that his heart would not reproach him. He wanted to do this as long as he lived. This is not the first time he said such a thing. In verse 3 he stated: All the while my breath is in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils... meaning his lifelong. Then he makes a list of the things he would not do; in verse 4 he says, My lips shall not speak wickedness, nor my tongue utter deceit. In the next verse he adds another thing he would not allow himself to do; ...till I die I will not remove mine integrity from me.
He listed three things that if followed will, no doubt, eliminate anyone's heart from reproaching them. Tell no lies, utter no deceit, never remove one's integrity.
Commit to these three things today and chances are your heart will find no reason to reproach you. How happy you will be! And blessed too!!
Until tomorrow, live for Christ today.
