Minding Your Thoughts

A Biblical Overview of Obtaining and Maintaining a Biblical Thought Life

Luke 12:17 And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?

So, he built bigger barns, he garnered much, and he became wealthy. But God called him a fool. We live in a society that seems to place wealth above all things. Years ago, I heard a preacher say that “Money does not create bad character, money exposes bad character.”

To grasp the real story of this wealthy farmer please read the entire parable (Luke 12:16–21). The Lord tells it much better than I could paraphrase it here. As you read, it take special notice of verse 21 for that is the entire crux of the matter. Jesus says that no matter how much money a person has, they are foolish if they are not rich toward God.

To be rich toward God one must invest in God. Just as a person becomes rich toward the stock market by investing in the stock market, a person can become rich toward God by investing toward God. Time, talents and treasures are the three major commodities of our life that can be invested toward God. Many never invest in the stock market because they do not think they have enough money to do so. The same is true with those who fail to invest in God, they think they do not have enough time, talent, or treasure to invest in Him. But they do.

In that these devotions are dedicated to thinking and thoughts let’s consider them for a moment. How much thinking do you invest in Him? How much of your thought life is invested in Him? If you want to be rich in God, invest in Him, and there is no better way to start than to invest a portion of your mind in Him. How? Study His Bible, listen to it being taught, study doctrine, and sing songs, hymns and spiritual songs to yourself. Create a time each and every day in which you invest thought in God and you will grow rich in God. Remember what Isaiah said, For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little: (Isaiah 28:10) This is how we invest toward God, little by little, but it all adds up. He is the best investment you will ever make.

May the Lord bless and be pleased with your thought life today.
