Daily Reading: Psalm 80-85
Oh that my people had hearkened unto me, and Israel had walked in my ways!
“Oh, how I wish that I had walked in His ways!” There will be a day that these words will echo through the chambers of God’s throne room. But my people would not hearken to my voice; and Israel would none of me. (Psalm 81:11)
Those familiar with the New Testament may recall Jesus’ words to Jerusalem: O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! Matthew 23:37
You see, this problem of people not walking in the ways of God is as old as the Bible. It all began with our common ancestors Adam and Eve and continues today. Why is it that individuals do not walk in His ways? For one thing His way is narrow, but most love the broad way. His way is straight, but most care for the meandering manner of life. His way is righteous, it is Holy, it is clean, it is humbling, and it is selfless. Yes, His way is not for the faint of heart, the shallow of mind, or the weak in spirit.
But many will on that day, cry out loud with awful shrieks of terror, “Oh, why didn’t I walk in His ways?” His way of salvation is clear, for it is the gospel. His way of life for today is readily available for all to read, for it is the New Testament. His way of forgiveness, giving, love, obedience, sacrifice, dying to self, and taking up one’s cross daily to live unto and for Him is not hidden away. His ways are easy to read, easy to spot, yet not easy to live.
But some do! Amen for them.
Until tomorrow, live for Christ today.
