Minding Your Thoughts

A Biblical Overview of Obtaining and Maintaining a Biblical Thought Life

June 24

Hebrews 10:29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden underfoot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

I wish there was time and space to deal with the totality of this verse, but in keeping with our theme we will only be able to deal with the aspect of thought that it contains.  However, this verse must be understood in its entirety. It is one of those verses that must be studied and pondered in order to fully grasp its eternal value and horrific warning.

With that said, this is the last verse that contains the word “thought” in the Bible.  It contains an eternal truth that is almost beyond human comprehension.  To fully understand this last teaching on the word “thought” one must be spiritually minded, and an absolute believer in the teachings of the Bible concerning our afterlife.  Many may dispute the following paragraph, but they cannot dispute the dire warning of this verse.

When a believer is granted their spiritual body (I Corinthians 15) it follows that they will have a new and spiritual mind that is able to better comprehend the Divine and Just mind of God.  At that time, they will be able to understand how worthy the punishment is for those who have …trodden underfoot the Son of God.   We may have a measure of this understanding today, but in Heaven with a new mind, believers will better understand the eternal things of God coupled with His temporal work of redemption and love toward His children.  Then there will be an ability to mentally grasp a more complete scope of His rewards for the faithful and His punishment for those who have committed the transgression contained in this verse.

One thing is for sure, any who take it upon themselves to …trodden underfoot the Son of God, beware!  The future does not bode well.

May the Lord bless and be pleased with your thought life today.

Dr. William Howe
