Daily Reading: Psalm 58-65
Psalm 59:9
Because of his strength will I wait upon thee: for God is my defence.
A Christian has only one defense, Almighty God. That’s it. Not our intellect, wisdom, personality, knowledge, or talent. Our only defense is the Lord our God. Primarily, His Word. Need to defend salvation by grace through faith, use the Word of God. Need to defend the local church, use the Word of God. Defend the doctrine of baptism, the Word of God. On and on we could go. All doctrine that we hold dear can only be defended by the Word of God as empowered by God. He is our defense.
Three times in Psalm 59 King David states clearly that God is his defense (verses 9,16,17). Twice he states such in Psalm 62 (verses 2,6). No doubt, David did all he could to defend himself, to defend his family, to defend his country, but when it came right down to it; his only abiding confidence in being defended rested on his faith in the Lord.
If you ever find yourself under attack for some word or action concerning your faith, remember this, your only and best defense is the Lord, namely His Word. So, stand tall and keep yourself within the confines of His Word.
Until tomorrow, live for Christ today.
