Minding Your Thoughts

A Biblical Overview of Obtaining and Maintaining a Biblical Thought Life

June 23

I Thessalonians 3:1 Wherefore when we could no longer forbear, we thought it good to be left at Athens alone;

The Apostle Paul is rehearsing his decision to send Timothy to Thessalonica (the church to whom he is writing) to check on their wellbeing. This turned out to be a good action which turned out to be a blessing for Paul, Timothy and the church. Truly his good thought was a good thought.

There are good thoughts that are good, wrong thoughts that are wrong, and good thoughts that turn out wrong, but seldom do wrong thoughts turn out good. The ability to know and understand the difference could be called discretion.

You may remember when God was creating the world and all that therein is, He stated over and over …and God saw that it was good. He had a good thought that turned out to be good in reality. Then He made man and for the first time He stated: It is not good… Certainly, He knew that He would make a woman, for He created in Adam the ability to love her and need her. In this story God allowed us into His thought process to teach us a lesson. It was no mistake on God’s part that He did not create Eve for Adam immediately, He did so perhaps to let us know why He made a woman, and what to do with thoughts that need correcting.

There is not enough time on earth to deal with all the wonderful reasons that God had for making women, but we can discuss in just a few words the lesson that the Lord could want us to learn from the creation of woman. When you have a thought that is not altogether good, fix it. Deal with it. Eradicate it. Find the root cause for it and resolve it. He did, and so can we.

Good thoughts are to be allowed to grow into actions that will bring forth good fruit. Wrong thoughts are to be forsaken, or fixed through a proper solution, before they bring forth events that will yield contaminated fruit.

May the Lord bless and be pleased with your thought life today.

Dr. William Howe
