Deliver me not over unto the will of mine enemies: for false witnesses are risen up against me, and such as breathe out cruelty.
Fourteen Great Prophecies in the Psalms
Number Seven
The Lord Jesus faced many false witnesses. Matthew 26:59-61 is one fulfillment of such. Now the chief priests, and elders, and all the council, sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death; But found none: yea, though many false witnesses came, yet found they none. At last came two false witnesses, and said, This fellow said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days. When Matthew writes that “yet found they none” he meant that there were no false witnesses that could be believed to the point of convicting the Lord. Mark sheds light on why, For many bare false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together. (Mark 14:56)
False witnesses are a way of life. All are susceptible to their lies. But, be of good comfort, the Lord knew this would happen to Him and to His followers. So, He told us things like: Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. (Matthew 5:11-12) This is difficult to do, but attempt it anyway.
In the Bible from Deuteronomy to Revelation the “two witness rule is utilized.” This would clear up many false witness types of testimony. The Bible is so clear, practical, and timely.
David prophesied it, the Lord lived it, and we sometimes suffer from it. One day, perhaps soon, every false witness will be known to be just that. They will stand before the Judge that has no jury and give account of their lies, half-truths, and innuendos, for the Word of God states that every idle word will be judged in that great judgment day. Today though, it hurts. It’s heart breaking. It sets friend against friend, splits families, and harms the nation. That some would find it so easy to falsely accuse another for whatever reason is, well it’s not reasonable. After all, who would want to endure the lies of a false witness? No one, right? Then no one should impose such on others, after all the golden rule is the antidote to false witnesses.
The golden rule is not “They that have the gold make the rules,” but rather “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” No one wants to be lied about, so be careful to not lie about others. If and when things need to be examined, employ the two-witness rule. For the false witness of false witnesses seldom agree, therein the false witness is seen for what it is; a false witness.
