My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?
Fourteen Great Prophecies in the Psalms
Number Two - Number Six
Within the book of the Psalms there are at least fourteen great prophecies of Christ. Today in one chapter there are five.
The first in this chapter is in verse one. These are the exact same words the Lord spoke on the cross in Matthew 27:46. For the first time in all eternity past, God the Father had to separate Himself from Jesus, for at that moment Christ had our sin put upon Him as He is the Lamb of God sacrificed as the atonement for sin.
The second is found in verse 7, All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head…. The Lord Jesus was laughed at and scorned. Especially in the matter of raising the ruler’s daughter in Matthew 9:24, He said unto them, Give place: for the maid is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn.
The third is found in verse 8, He trusted on the Lord that he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him. This indicated that our Lord’s prophetic words would be mocked. In Matthew 27:43 this was fulfilled. He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God.
The fourth is found in verse 16, For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet. Of course this was fulfilled when Christ was nailed to the cross. After His resurrection, to prove it was He, the Lord invited Thomas to inspect his wounds. John 20:27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.
The fifth is found in verse 18, They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture. Of which Mark 15:24 states: And when they had crucified him, they parted his garments, casting lots upon them, what every man should take.
These prophetic statements that were fulfilled in the life of Christ proves once again that the old adage is true: “The Old Testament is the New Testament concealed, whereas the New Testament is the Old Testament revealed.”
