Daily Reading: Psalm 9-16

Psalm 13:1

How long wilt thou forget me, O LORD? for ever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me?

Have you been there? I have. The place where you think that even God Himself has forsaken you. Probably most people visit there from time to time. King David wrote this Psalm and he asked the Lord if He would forget him forever. He yearned to know how long the Lord would hide his face from him. David was alone, despondent, discouraged, downhearted, and discomforted. For 4 verses this longing of David’s is poured out. That is until verse 5 and then verse 6.

Therein the psalmist writes this: But I have trusted in thy mercy; my heart shall rejoice in thy salvation. I will sing unto the Lord, because he hath dealt bountifully with me. You see, David did not stay in verses 1-4, he got to verses 5-6. The Psalm that began mournfully, ended with rejoicing!

Too often when we visit that place of verses 1-4, we stay there too long. Get to verses 5-6! Get there quickly, expeditiously, speedily, hurriedly, and rapidly! Try not to stay in the doldrums, get topside. When there, stay there as long as you can! We have all been down, but look up, sing a song of faith, praise His Holy name, recount the times past when His mercies carried you through and you will be amazed how quickly verses 1-4 become a memory, and verses 5-6 are your reality.

Until tomorrow, live for Christ today.
