Daily Reading: Psalm 108-114

Psalm 108:12

Give us help from trouble: for vain is the help of man.

When God is all you have, God is all you need. That was the title of the message that night. I preached it to others only to come to live it just a few days later. At the beginning of the message I said, “I don’t know who this is for, but someday you might need this message.”

What happened was my wife was diagnosed with cancer. At the time we had a health insurance plan that was available for pastors and their families. We knew that it was limited, but when we contacted them about the cancer, we were disheartened to say the least. The company that provided the plan told us that their coverage from the underwriter had been changed. We should have received a letter, which we never did. The long and short of it was that she was not covered. We were on our own.

But not quite so because the Lord God was on our side. We paid for the first two surgeries “out of pocket.” Which means we took out a home equity loan to pay for them. Some churches helped when they heard the news, and we were appreciative. Now, 16 years later, 6 surgical procedures later, after 8 rounds of Chemo, and now being cancer free, it seems like a story from a book. Frankly, we do not know how, but all is paid, and all is well.

You see, truly: When God is all you have, God is all you need.

Until tomorrow, live for Christ today.
