Daily Reading: Proverbs 16-18
Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.
Quite frankly, there are a lot more doers than there are thinkers! Doers are seen doing the work. By observing one doing the work another can learn how to do the work, but thinking cannot be observed. Watch a person think. What do you see? Not much right? But once their thoughts about a matter are established, watch out… the doing is about to commence. Especially if that person doing the thinking knows that it was the Lord that established their thoughts about the work at hand.
Many jobs have begun without having the proper time of thought put into it. This results in one of two things happening: the work is never really started in the first place, or the job is started but becomes a mess and probably a failure, all due to a lack of planning, thinking and especially counting the cost.
In a business seminar this was said: “If you can plan it, write it out, you can do it.” This is both true and false. It was false in the day of the tower of Babel, they planned it, but it came to naught because it was not of God, and He stopped it. It is true in that nothing can be built or accomplished without a plan, and plans take thought.
When given a task that seems impossible. Just stop and commit it to the Lord. Then think, and as you think, the Lord will establish your thoughts or your plans, if you will. His plans, the Lord’s plans or thoughts are perfect, follow that which He gives you in the thinking stage and your works will be established. You will find a good return on your labor. But it takes time, perhaps a few moments, a few hours, days, weeks, months, or even years. Ultimately the works you commit to Him, He will establish your thoughts about them. Sometimes His guidance is “Do not do this work.” This is just as important a thought about the work as “Do it this way, the first step is…”. Or, perhaps, even more important. Now, that is a thought worth thinking about.
Until tomorrow, live for Christ today.
