A Biblical Overview of Obtaining and Maintaining a Biblical Thought Life

Matthew 3:9 And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

John the Baptist is the one speaking in today’s verse. He lands a preemptive strike against the wrong thinking that the Pharisees and Sadducees would try to use against him. Sometimes we think to say certain things to ourselves to justify our thoughts or actions. John the Baptist was trying to warn the Pharisees and Sadducees of their wrong thinking.

Much of what a preacher does is to challenge the thinking of individuals. In a few days we will deal exclusively with Matthew 22:42, but it offers a great illustration for today’s devotion. In Matthew 22:42 Jesus asks the question, What think ye of Christ? This is the question of questions. The Lord was challenging the hearers to think about what they think. True Bible preachers continually challenge the people to whom they preach to think about what they think.

I once thought that life was a time to live for self and pack in the most fun possible. Life to me was like a game. Thank God for a preacher that God put into my life that challenged my thinking through the use of the Holy Scriptures. I learned that life was about love, and that love is about sacrifice and giving. Life is about living for the Lord and helping others to find Him. Life is about church and fellowshipping with other believers. Life is about work and providing for your own. Life is about the race, keeping an eye on the prize. Yes, through preachers challenging my thinking about life, I have learned much about life.
