Daily Reading: Proverbs 1-3
Proverbs 3:2
For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.
Productive days, long life, and peace. These are three things that most desire. Probably multiple billions of dollars are spent per year for productive days, long life and peace, however, these things cannot be bought. But they can be given. God can give these things. In verse one of Proverbs three, God’s Word states clearly who can expect these things to be given them. My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments.
When reading the book of Proverbs understand that it is a collection of wise sayings collected and collated by Solomon. He was a king to whom God gave wisdom, knowledge and intelligence. He may have been the wisest individual to ever live with the exception of the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. The proverbs are given from a father to the son, but in a greater sense they are given from God to Solomon to every person who reads them. By reading this book any person can learn wisdom, gain understanding, and receive direction from God Almighty for probably every situation in life.
Getting back to productive days, long life, and peace. These are made obtainable by not forgetting God’s law and by keeping His commandments which are things that most mock today. Think about it… “turn the other cheek,” “go the extra mile,” “love your enemy,” prefer others before myself (Romans 12:10) and a thousand other similar teachings are laughed at and scorned today. Just listen to the radio news, watch the cable news stations, take in the political speeches, or tune into the talk radio stations. Loving an enemy is about as rare a thing as seeing unicorns walking down the street.
Productive days, long life, and peace are three things every sane person could desire. Proverbs three gives a good start on how to gain them. Notice:
3:7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.
3:9 Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:
3:11 My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction:
3:27 Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it.
3:30 Strive not with a man without cause, if he have done thee no harm.
How? How can these and all the other commands, laws, precepts, and statutes of God’s Word be performed? This chapter answers that too. Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:5-6 He will direct your path, but you must walk it.
In doing so any person can obtain productive days, long life, and peace.
