Rēad to Read …Again

Daily Reading: Psalm 146-150

Psalm 147:4

He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names.

The mind of the Lord is unfathomable. Truly the prophet Isaiah was right when he said,

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. (Isaiah 55:8-9) His thoughts are His, and His alone. Those thoughts, His thoughts, are higher than our thoughts. His ways are not our ways. As the heavens are higher than the earth so are His ways higher than ours.

Proof? He knows the number of stars that hang in space. Not only does He know how many, He knows the name of every one of them. This is likened to knowing by memory every name in the phone book of a large city. Not only knowing them but having a personal relationship with each. That is how great the mind of God is!

Consider this, it has been commonly reported that there are about 100 million stars in the average galaxy. According to the images from the Hubble Telescope, scientists suggest that there are approximately two trillion galaxies in the observable universe (from Space.com How many stars are in the universe, published 2/11/2022). Just in the Milky Way there are estimated to be about one hundred billion stars, some say that number could be doubled. God knows the name of each one.

Knowing this helps make understandable the Bible statements about the Lord knowing every sparrow in the sky (Luke 12:6), every person alive, and even the number of hairs on a person’s head is numbered (Matthew 10:30). In I John 3:20 it is recorded that God knows all things. In fact, in Matthew 12:36 it is revealed that God is keeping track of every idle word that each person speaks and that they will give an account thereof in the day of judgment.

So, God in Heaven, our Heavenly Father, the magnificent Lord God of the universe, knows how many stars there are, their names, every bird, every person, how many hairs on the head of every person, and every word that every person utters. Therefore, how can mere humans with the mental limits we have question Him? It’s like this poem, inspired by Isaiah 64:8.

The Potter

The vase said to the potter,

Why have you made me this way?

My handle is far too little,

My neck is too narrow they say.

The Potter said to the beautiful vase,

Why speak to me in this way?

If it were not for my loving touch

You’d still be a hunk of clay.

Yes, indeed, the mind of God is unfathomable.
