Minding Your Thoughts
A Biblical Overview of Obtaining and Maintaining a Biblical Thought Life
Lamentations 3:21 This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope.
What did he recall, what brought him hope? The following 15 verses give us a glimpse.
It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.
They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.
The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.
It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.
It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth.
He sitteth alone and keepeth silence, because he hath borne it upon him.
He putteth his mouth in the dust; if so be there may be hope.
He giveth his cheek to him that smiteth him: he is filled full with reproach.
For the Lord will not cast off for ever:
But though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his mercies.
For he doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men.
To crush under his feet all the prisoners of the earth,
To turn aside the right of a man before the face of the most High,
To subvert a man in his cause, the Lord approveth not. (Lamentations 3:22-36)
This portion of Scripture is not only a tremendous prophecy of the coming Saviour, it is a real help to those who need to control their mind and only let good things in. Try to memorize it or write it on a card to keep in your pocket. Then, when the wrong thoughts attempt to invade, recite it, or read it, and let your mind think about the rich promises it shares. This will help, guaranteed.
Philip Chesterfield, a seventeenth century English orator said this, “A weak mind is like a microscope, which magnifies trifling things, but cannot receive great ones.” If not careful it is easy to focus on the small foxes that spoil the vine instead of the vine itself. Meaning that sometimes we focus on the small things of this life to the exclusion of seeing the big things of God. Recall to mind the great things of God, as found in His Word, and hope will be the supernatural result.
May the Lord Bless and be pleased with your thought life today.
