Daily Reading: Genesis 43-45
And when Joseph came home, they brought him the present which was in their hand into the house, and bowed themselves to him to the earth.
The dream comes true. All the way back in Genesis 37, perhaps twenty years or more earlier, Joseph had a dream. Actually he had two dreams; both indicated that his brothers would bow down unto him. This caused a lot of turmoil in the family. And he told it to his father, and to his brethren: and his father rebuked him, and said unto him, What is this dream that thou hast dreamed? Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth? (Genesis 37:10).
The careful reader of the Bible may notice that this was not the first time that Joseph's brothers bowed down to him. During their first journey into Egypt to buy bread they also bowed down to Joseph (chapter 42). Twice they bowed down to their brother, in fulfillment of both dreams. Certainly, this was direct fulfillment of prophecy in the Old Testament. Of course, it was a dream, and not the Word of God in the conventional sense. No prophet told Joseph that his brothers would bow before him. There was no written manuscript indicating such, just a dream. But make no doubt, God can reveal His will and/or future plans to an individual through dreams as well. Every preacher, missionary or evangelist that follows God's call is "following the dream" that God gave them. This is the way God gives individuals specific leadership of His Will for their life. Certainly, the young men shall see visions and the old men shall dream dreams in the Gospel Age just like Joel prophesied and Peter preached about on the day of Pentecost.
Joseph stayed the course even when difficulties arose, and he saw his God given dreams come true. If anyone could have quit with good reason it was Joseph. His brothers threw him into a pit, he was sold into slavery, he was disgraced by a woman's lie, and he was put into prison unjustly. But he did not let these things cause him to grow hard and cold to life and living. If anything they tempered him. In every situation God was with him and blessed him, even though for a long time he must have thought...who knows what he thought. But we do know this; he kept a good spirit and lived to see his dreams become a reality.
Until tomorrow, live for Christ today.
