Daily Reading: Leviticus 22-23
Leviticus 23:4
These are the feasts of the Lord, even holy convocations, which ye shall proclaim in their seasons.
In Leviticus 23 seven major feasts of the Lord are outlined. They are:
1. The Passover Feast, vs. 4-5 – held during the month of Abib the 10th to the 21st day (April) This speaks of Calvary, I Corinthians 5:7
2. The Feast of Unleavened Bread, vs. 6-8 – note some scholars consider this a part of the Passover Feast. This speaks of our perfect, sinless Saviour, I Corinthians 5:8
3. The Feast of the First Fruits, vs. 9-14 This pictures the Resurrection, I Corinthians 15:23
4. The Feast of Pentecost, vs. 15-25 This represents the coming of the Holy Spirit, Acts 2
5. The Feast of Trumpets, vs. 23-25 This symbolizes the rapture and Second Coming of Christ, I Thessalonians 4:13-18
6. The Day of Atonement, vs. 26-32 This typifies of the coming Tribulation, Revelation 6-19
7. The Feast of Tabernacles, vs. 33-44 This illustrates the millennial reign of Jesus Christ, Revelation 20:1-6
(This list was compiled from various sources there is no claim to originality)
Of course, then, there was also the weekly sabbath, vs. 1-3. However, the weekly sabbath is not the only sabbath. These feasts had special sabbaths, and of course there is the seventh year sabbath and the year of Jubilee. More will be learned of these as the Bible unfolds its drama of the Jewish feast days, convocations, high days, and sabbaths. All of which represent something of the New Testament believer’s past, present and future in and through Jesus Christ.
