Read to Read …Again
Daily Reading: Numbers 21-22
Numbers 21:22
Let me pass through thy land: we will not turn into the fields, or into the vineyards; we will not drink of the waters of the well: but we will go along by the king's high way, until we be past thy borders.
In back-to-back chapters of our current reading, the term “king’s high way” is used. One was speaking about the highway that belonged to the King of Edom, and the other to the king of the Amorites. These were physical roadways that belonged to the kings of the lands. In the New Testament there is a spiritual way. John the Baptist prepared the way. Paul, Peter, John, and all the other New Testament writers write of the way. Paul even persecuted those of the way. Matthew told us that “narrow is the way.”
Jesus, in a declarative statement if there ever was one, said: … I am the way… (John 14:6) To His believers He is the one and only Way. Consider how we commonly use the word way in our language. Each one draws a comparison to the Man, Christ Jesus.
